I direct you to a fascinating review of The Lives of Others by Barbara Nicolosi. She makes an interesting argument for why Hollywood has made so many movies about the Nazi atrocities but so few about the appalling stories of the Soviets or modern communists in Cuba, China or North Korea.

I thought the movie was definitely worth a watch. I've never been there, but the Eastern European countries look so depressing. Even if the tyrants, bad economies, and low quality of life didn't get to someone living there, how about just the aesthetics? Check out some of the buildings and automobiles in the film. They look like they were purposely designed to be ugly and offend. I don't know why you'd do that to yourself if you were an architect or designer.
